Today I listed an antique quilt for $300. Then I started to list my next item, and Kaching! It sold that fast. Happy dance. Then of course I wondered if I listed it too cheaply. :-). I had bought it for myself for $200. Enjoyed it for a few years, then made a profit on it. How can you not love this life?
Linda--that exact thing happened to me--I sold a quilt for $399 and it sold within minutes and I second guessed myself too, but the thing is the quilt market went so soft when the Chinese (ugh) started reproducing classic quilt design years ago...so I'm happy that mine sold so fast.
I think we all second-guess ourselves when something sells so quickly. While I love to see things sell quickly, when they sell too quickly I worry about my pricing. My happy spot is a few days delay between listing and selling.
Exactly how I feel. Within an hour, oops. Within a day, probably underpriced. A week to a month, just right.
It could be it sold fast because that buyer had a saved search for that type of quilt and liked the new one that showed up in their feed.
I agree with Edward. I sell Polaroid cameras almost as quickly as I can list them every time but the reason is there are several big vendors on ebay that have saved searches for models that they like to buy and refurbish.
I'd like to think it sold fast due to my outstanding photos. :-)
Care to link to your store Linda? Id like to see it.

Link just takes me to eBay go my own stuff.
PS. If you search YouTube for "How to Repair an Antique Picture Frame with Silicone Putty" it will show you how to restore a fancy plaster frame. Ryanne, I think your crafty side would enjoy that.
Ryanne, you looked awesome modeling the Army jacket. I also liked the Pendleton jacket and I saw the buyer's positive feedback!
There was a time when you couldn't give those sewing machines away! So, good for you; 600.00!! Wowzers! I never would've guessed it!
Ha--one sold at my local auction last night for about $25, J&R just have the touch!
it's a great sale. but we held onto it for a year and 2 months. got a lot of $100 offers on it. so i guess we found the right person.
The squirrel vest and the sweater vest from peru are so stinkin' cute! And wow, the rooster placemats and napkins, if I found that I couldn't sell it. So beautiful! Glad you got a good price on the sewing machine. We used to see those everywhere. Maybe we should consider buying them next time we see them. I know that we do have a table..without the machine...but it's not listed. LOL
I'm just amazed, every week! Great work!I went "all in" on a major art purchase yesterday... I'm really not an "all in" kind of person, and I've been queasy and sleepless, but I think (hope!) with research and work it will pay off. I've already discovered that a handful of the items are basically duds, but others could be decent. Anyway, I've got a houseful of art, a bunch of research, and a ton of listing ahead of me. I want to get at least two or three pieces researched and listed today so I can at least have my financial outlay covered by potential sales (if you see what I'm saying.) Will let you know how it works out.
Go Kate! (Think of what extra moola can do at Christmas.) BTW, I bought stuff at auction last night and I always feel queasy after spending a significant amount of money, LOL. (I am also nervous because I bought a box lot for ONE item, and that item could easily be pocketed, so will not be at peace until I pick up my stuff later today.)
Thanks, Sue! This was a huge outlay for me and I'm still nervous about it. I got a few pieces listed today and a few more listings drafted, but I won't feel good about it until I've recouped my money. I spent more than I should have, to help out a friend. I need a transfusion of Ferengi blood, I think. Good luck with your box lot!
Rookie Accounting Q: Is there a way to access Ebay sales prices (without shipping) going back past 90 days in Ebay archives or Paypal. It looks like Ebay only does 90 days in their archives and Paypal only allows downloading all activity or the total receiept (including shipping). Thanks. Next year I'm getting software.
Sign up for the app in Ebay for Go Daddy Bookeeping. It used to be called Outlook. Search the Ebay apps site for it. Wonderful data.
(I'm replying based on memory, not actually looking at Paypal, right now.) If you down load the all activity file from Paypal, there are columns for shipping, handling, insurance and sales taxes. If you charge shipping, you can deduct that column(s) information from the gross column information to get your ebay sales price.
go daddy will show you sales and shipping separately which is nice and will show you as far back as when you linked your store. so i have about 3 years worth of data in my godaddy account now.
For my fellow Etsy sellers a new search algorithm has been announced that is very close to what eBay is doing--" we will now include customer experience as a factor in search placement, in addition to whether a shop is in good standing based on Etsy’s policies. Now, positive reviews, completed About pages and completed shop Policies can help your placement in search. On the other hand, recent cases and intellectual property-infringement issues can result in lower placement. New shops without reviews can improve their ranking by filling out their About page and Policies."Certainly something to think about when using this venue. I feel lucky I started when I did because I have established a reputation.
Thanks! I didn't see that. I only have 9 reviews so far but I'll be sure my About Page and Policies Page are complete.
The other morning my phone (which was in another room) woke my wife and I with a loud eBay Cha-Ching notification. I was kinda conflicted about it. I love to hear that sound but it was 4:15am!
I also love/hate that (mostly love). I usually can't resist getting out of bed to see what sold!
I'm pretty sure there's a way to change your settings so that your notifications are silent between certain hours, although I don't know if it's a phone setting or an eBay app setting.
For me, it's a phone setting. I get no sounds overnight and I love to wake up & see offers and/or sold items that happened while I was sleeping ;-)
I do the same on my phone. All alerts except the alarm are silenced between 10 pm and 6 am. I do love to wake up to eBay notifications on the phone. Makes it easier to get up.
The squirrel sweater is amazing! My daughter would have been all over that. Love seeing all of the "small" things you sell and learning about them through these videos. I need to start paying more attention to that kind of potential inventory.
Seeing the Silverado Logo fetch such a high price makes me want to hunt through the local auto salvage yard with a screw driver. There's one nearby that spans over several acres. I wonder how much such a place would charge me if I only wanted the logo pieces.
deb truer values Thursday 11.5Has the photo uploader been weird for anyone else today? I am having a really hard time loading and editing--it's really touchy. Or, is it the fact that we are having a very dark day around here and I don't have good light, so everything is getting rejected?
yes i could not upload photos for most of the afternoon. looks like it's fixed, i have been listing for that last 30 minutes.
Guys! I totally had that learning clock you just listed. I'd forgotten all about it; seeing it was like magic. So fun.
ha, that's cool. we bought that in Amsterdam.
Balmain for H&M madness! BOLO for those in less populated cities I guess...H&M x Balmain: Terrifying Footage of Shoppers Laying Waste to a StoreH&M Balmain Sold Listings
Holy cow! Who would've guessed? Madness, i say!!
I bought a vintage lightweight Burberry trench coat which was labelled Burberrys so at first I thought it was a knock off but evidently that used to be their name. Anyway it was 8 bucks which is more than I ever pay for clothing but I thought it would still sell well. I get it home to photograph it and realize a big rip near the belt loop. It's not on the seam line so fixing it would be noticeable. I'm now deciding to list it with a the rip or take it back to the store. Bummer.
Can you use iron on adhesive underneath fabric with the tear? It wouldn't show if the coat has a lining and you go up between the lining and the exterior fabric. Then list it noting that it has been repaired?
does anyone know how to use a credit card for ebay shipping charges instead of paypal?
I empty my paypal account to my bank account, so my balance is $0.00. Then when I go to purchase shipping, it gives me the option to change where my funding comes from in the upper right corner. Paypal defaults to using your bank account as a back up if there are no funds present. Then just make sure your credit card is an option on paypal. If anyone knows a more permanent way to do this I would like to know.
ooo- That would be a great way to rack up cc rewards.
That's what we do with our AMEX card. We're up to 25,000 points already!
Just left an estate sale. You all would have loved this house. 2 story brick, 2 staircases, butlers room. Busting with stuff. I bought a set of vintage rocks glasses and matching tumblers for myself. There were over 20 pair of Ferragamos, all Sz 9-10 AA but $20 each. 1/2 price tomorrow afternoon, may have to check back.
Estate sale envy, here. I keep looking for one, even in 150 mile radius; nothing. I need to move...
Momsav, I'm curious where do you live. In general, I'm not expecting a street address . :)
he is in sioux falls south dakota
If you are in Sioux Falls, craigslist has a site there link there is a estate sale listed at 1315 S Main Ave. if that is close to you. I didn't look at the free listings.
After seeing the video a couple of days ago I now know of other styles of Coogi sweaters. I had never seen one but found one this morning at a church sale. Similar style as yours but blue and green and a button up style. Also, it was only a short sleeve, which I haven't found yet on eBay but will look more before I list it. Thanks to the video I was able to spot it by the pattern/weave from a distance.
Be sure and check the label to make certain that it is a real Coogi--this brand has been knocked off like crazy!
Also be aware that people mainly want Coogi from Australia. They now out source a lot of their garments so unless it's vintage or higher end stuff like suits it may say made in China or whatever. People don't seem to buy those items as well. And for pronunciation its G like in Giant. Or at least that's how the hip hop world pronounces it and they are your main buyer for Coogi.
Looks authentic. Tag says Coogi Australia and Made in Australia. The knitting looks identical to the one in the video but a different color and sweater style. This one is button front and short sleeves.
I totally got "retail arbitraged" this week! I bought my son a Lego set on Ebay, and when I received it, it was as a "gift" direct from Amazon. I remember you guys talking about that, so I had to laugh. Not sure if the guy is making much though. I checked Amazon right before I bought it and it was $2 higher than I paid, and was still that price when I checked again after I got mine in the mail. Maybe he knows something I don't. More power to him if it works!
Question with all the glitching going on recently. I have looked at several of my listings today. The Shipping that is showing is International cost.......not the domestic shipping rate. Obviously the International rate is going to seem ridiculously high for a domestic buyer.....we all know people do not read. How many sales am i losing to this and why are my listings not showing the domestic cost? Check this out for instance: 262088533969 This item has free domestic shipping yet it shows $14.00 International on the listing. Is this a glitch or am i losing it? Appreciate the response. I may call eBay soon if it doesnt get fixed.
I FIGURED IT OUT. Weird, i had checked the International shipping cost for one item yesterday by selecting Canada on the "Get Rates" page for the listing. I did not select USA after i was finished. This caused ALL of my listings to show me the Canada rate of shipping. Why i have no clue but i changed it back.
i see .75 cents standard US shipping and $3.50 expedited. on your other listings i see free shipping though. like on 141822109429
Thank You for checking. Did my explanation of why make sense?
yep. if you change the shipping country and don't change it back, you'll be seeing their prices because ebay still thinks you're in that country.
300 Listings! 324 total items! Yippee!!!
Congratz, now go list some more :)
Anyone have any experience trading on etsy? We just got an offer from someone offering to trade something from their shop for something in ours. They're offering to ship first. Anything we should know or be aware of? Thanks!
Halloween showed me that the economy is in bad shape. 1/4 of the houses in my area (New England) were giving out candy and those that were handed out cheaply. Not complaining at all......its a sign in my opinion. I would expect to see sales this Fall to be a lot lower than previous years. I hope i am wrong because i am broke lol. About the locks.......not picking on you but why would you want to purchase used locks with keys addressed to your HOME. Think about this.......locks to your home that anyone could have a key for because they are pre owned. Chances of an issue are probably rare however i would never take that chance. Indoor keying fine, go for it........never purchase pre owned security items....ever. Just my input :) Thanks for all you guys do!!!
these are electronic locks that can be re-keyed to a master key (something i've done) and they were being mailed to my house but installed on another house with a different address. so no worries about security. but that's a good point!
My neighborhood had every house giving out candy(good stuff) or left a giant bowl on their front porch asking people to take a few pieces.
I have a question about brass drawer pulls. Because I have heard you discuss hardware on the podcasts I knew the ones I found at a church sale might be good. I did a quick look on eBay and they go for about $10 each. I got a bag of about 20 for $3.Is it better to sell them as a lot of X or as individual and they can choose the quantity they need?Do they need to be cleaned first or sold as-is and the buyer can clean them as needed? Thanks for the great podcast and What Sells videos; they help me be a better scavenger.
hm, i've done both before. $10 each is a nice price. so maybe do them individually and say Qty 20 and let people grab 1-20, however many they need. sometimes people only really do need 1. and you'll triple your money on just selling one. nice find!
deb truervaluesHi Edward - You could try a couple of different listings and see which works best. I have had very good luck with things like this and have sold from 3 to 12 to a lot, based upon cost/design
Just done with packing the weekend sales and it occurred to me, there's nothing like a new blade in the box cutter, especially when you've been hacking away with a dull one for awhile.
