One of the most frequent questions we get is “what items do you find for $1 that sell for $30+?”. If you go to Thrift Core, you’ll see exactly what we strive to buy and sell: vintage, one-of-a-kind design objects for a curated setting. All that junk spread out on flea market tables become pieces of art when staged by someone with an distinctive eye. Forget selling cheap iPhone cases from China on Amazon. The US is full of these unique and playful items made when manufacturing still existed in this country. There’s an entire segment of the population that seek out and will pay for these well-made bits of history that have useful and/or nostalgic value. It’s important to these people to surround themselves with these objects of quality. That’s our business.
This week we interview Van from Thrift Core who has been writing about this culture since she quit her job three years ago. She has a great eye of how vintage items “work” and shares with us why she finds this world so intriguing.
She also scavenges and sells on Etsy, as well as in a physical space at an antique mall. Since our strategy has been to focus on eBay, she tells us how she sells on Etsy and why she thinks it’s different from eBay.
